Strawberry Dump Cake (Using Boxed Cake Mix)

This strawberry dump cake has to be one of the easiest desserts around. It required only 3 simple ingredients, and takes just a few minutes to put together before the oven does the rest of the work.

Equipment

  • 10.5 x 7.5 inch baking dish
  • Non-stick cooking spray

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups strawberry pie filling
  • 13.25 oz white cake mix can also use yellow cake mix
  • ¾ cup (1 ½ sticks) cold salted butter sliced into thin squares

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 10.5 x 7.5 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
  • Pour the strawberry pie filling into the base of the baking dish.
  • Sprinkle the vanilla cake mix evenly over the strawberry pie filling. Top with the sliced butter arranged in a single layer.
  • Bake the cake for 40-45 minutes, or until lightly golden and the strawberry filling is bubbling. Allow to sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Rather than using sliced cold butter over the cake mix, the butter can be melted and drizzled over the cake mix, if preferred.
  • The cake layer will still be quite soft when first removed from the oven, however it will firm up slightly as it cools.
  • This dump cake can be served warm or at room temperature.
  • This dump cake is delicious served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Storage:
Store this strawberry dump cake in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat using the microwave or covered in the oven.
This dump cake is suitable for freezing. Freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating according to the above directions.
