This homemade Maple Pecan Honey Bun Cake is the perfect blend of flavors and texture. It's sweet, nutty, and has a touch of maple syrup for that extra burst of flavor. Best of all, it's incredibly easy to make using box cake mix.
Preheat the oven to 350℉. Spray a 13x9 inch baking pan with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
Add the cake mix, vegetable oil, eggs, and sour cream to a large bowl and beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
Add the brown sugar, pecans, and ground cinnamon to a small bowl and mix to combine.
Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture evenly over the batter. Pour the remaining batter evenly over the pecan mixture and use a spatula to gently spread the cake batter over the filling.
Place the cake in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove the pan from the oven and place on a cooling rack.
Make the Glaze
In a small bowl, stir together the powdered sugar, milk, maple syrup, and maple extract. If your glaze is too stiff, add more milk.
Use a fork to poke holes over the entire surface of the warm cake and carefully pour and spread the glaze over the cake. Let the cake cool completely before serving.
