Cuisine Mexican
- 3 ripe avocados I used Mexican Hass Avocados
- 2 Roma tomatoes
- 1 jalapeno
- 1 lime juiced
- ½ red onion
- 2 tbsp cilantro chopped
- ¼ tsp salt or to taste
- ¼ tsp black pepper or to taste
Cut the avocados in half and remove the pits. Scoop the avocado flesh into a medium bowl and discard the skins.
Dice the tomatoes and red onion, finely chop the jalapeño and cilantro, and cut the lime in half.
Using a fork, mash the avocados until they reach your desired consistency.
Add the diced tomatoes, red onion, jalapeño, and cilantro to the mashed avocado.
Squeeze the fresh lime juice over the mixture, then season with salt and black pepper.
Gently stir everything together until well combined.
- Choose ripe avocados: The avocados should give slightly when gently pressed. If they’re too firm, they’ll be difficult to mash and won’t have the same creamy texture.
- Adjust the texture: For chunky guacamole, lightly mash the avocados and leave some larger pieces. For a smoother guacamole, mash them more thoroughly before adding the remaining ingredients.
- Control the heat: Remove the jalapeño seeds for a milder guacamole, or leave some in for extra heat.
- Adjust to taste: Add more lime juice, salt, black pepper, or cilantro according to your preference.
- Prevent browning: Press plastic wrap directly against the surface of the guacamole before refrigerating to limit its exposure to air.
- Storage: Store leftover guacamole in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Some browning is natural; if needed, scrape away the browned surface and stir before serving.
