- 5 Roma tomatoes
- ½ red onion
- 1 jalapeno pepper
- 1 lime juiced
- 2 Tbsp cilantro chopped
- ¼ salt or to taste,
- ¼ black pepper or to taste
Dice the tomatoes and red onion, then finely chop the jalapeño and cilantro.
Add the diced tomatoes, red onion, jalapeño, and cilantro to a medium bowl.
Squeeze the fresh lime juice over the ingredients, then season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Gently stir everything together until well combined.
Serve immediately with tortilla chips, or refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Control the heat: Remove the seeds from the jalapeño for a milder salsa. Leave some or all of them in if you prefer more heat.
- Finely dice the ingredients: Cutting the tomatoes, onion, and jalapeño into small, evenly sized pieces gives the salsa a better texture and makes it easier to scoop with tortilla chips.
- Adjust to taste: Add more lime juice, salt, black pepper, cilantro, or jalapeño depending on your preference.
- Let the flavors develop: For even more flavor, refrigerate the salsa for about 30 minutes before serving.
- Drain if needed: Fresh tomatoes release liquid as they sit. If the salsa becomes too watery, simply drain off some of the excess liquid before serving.
- Storage: Store leftover salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Give it a good stir before serving.
- Serving ideas: Serve with tortilla chips or use it as a topping for tacos, fajitas, burrito bowls, grilled chicken, or nachos.
